Creanova: New PE wax as PVC lubricant

A new low-melting polyethylene wax for use as a PVC lubricant or carrier for polyolefin color masterbatches reportedly features a higher crystallinity and hardness than other low-melting PE-waxes. Vestowax EP 118 from Creanova Inc., Somerset, N.J., has a low drop point (<219 F) and density (0.91 g/cc) plus medium crystallinity. This special combination of properties lets EP 118 wet pigments (especially phthalocyanine blue) better at low temperatures (about 230 F), without blooming or sweating in finished polyolefin products. This product is also said to be a highly efficient external lubricant for tin- and Ca/Zn-stabilized PVC compounds. It reportedly shows no plate-out tendency.
