Rauwendaal Extrusion Engineering: Stacking Static Mixers

Stacking as many as a dozen static mixers together is a new, inexpensive, and space-saving way to cool and mix plastic melts, says The Madison Group in Madison. In normal mixing applications, a pair of DDSMs (dispersive/distributive static mixers) designed by the Madison Group and Rauwendaal Extrusion Engineering of Los Altos Hills, USA, are placed just before the breaker plate. Now the Madison Group has tried stacking six, seven or 12 of them together to cool PS melt before extruding foam sheet. Stacked mixers reportedly also help eliminate black specs in PVC extrusion.
