Coperion Werner & Pfleiderer: ZSK with interchangeable processing sections

A new development which is of particular interest for laboratory and development tasks and for small-scale production will be presented by Coperion Werner & Pfleiderer GmbH & Co. KG, Stuttgart/Germany, at the Fakuma (15 to 19 October 2002 in Friedrichshafen/Germany), on stand 5038 in Hall A 5: For the first time, a twin-screw compounder (ZSK) is equipped with two processing sections which have been optimized for different process tasks and can be easily interchanged in just about 60 min.

The processing section ZSK 32 MEGAcompounder, with 32 mm screw diameter, is suitable for compounding processes requiring high energy input, high shear rates and high torque.

The processing section ZSK 34 MEGAvolume is designed for compounding large-volume feedstocks with low bulk density as well as for compounding processes requiring a relatively low energy input and longer residence times.
The two processing sections of the new compounding extruder ZSK 32 Mc / 34 Mv are operated at different torque. Nevertheless, only one drive motor, one gearbox and one switchgear are used. For torque adjustment, a pneumatic clutch with electronic monitoring device is integrated in the drive, which is the only deviation from standard design
