BP and Nova Chemicals: Joined development of metallocene catalysed polyethylenes

BP and Nova Chemicals Corporation have joined in the development of metallocene catalysed polyethylenes. They have signed an agreement under which BP will license its Innovene metallocene technology portfolio to Nova for use in polyethylene manufacturing and Nova has granted BP the rights to use and sub-license its proprietary single-site catalysts. The cooperation extends to the development of metallocene and single-site catalyst technology for gas-phase polyethylene production.
Both companies will use the metallocene and other single-site catalysts arising from this cooperation for polyethylene manufacturing, and will also be able to license them to third parties.
BP and Nova already have an agreement to develop and commercialize Nova’s Novacat T advanced Ziegler-Natta catalyst.
