Trico Products: Concentration on Brownsville plant

Trico Products, the world’s largest windshield-wiper manufacturer, is closing its Buffalo plant and expanding its Brownsville operations. The move includes a 30,000-plus square-foot building expansion and between 30 and 40 manufacturing jobs for the local economy, said Martin Kennedy, Trico vice president of operations. The 200-employee Buffalo location will close by the end of the year, Kennedy said. Buffalo is the founding location of the company and has been there since 1917, though it was significantly downsized in 1986 with the opening of the Brownsville plant, located at the Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport on Billy Mitchell Boulevard. Brownsville, with about 600 employees, will now be the sole U.S. manufacturing site for Trico, owned by British holding company Tomkins PLC.
